New Cabela's in Berlin, MA

I was able to hit the Private Shopping event yesterday at 5 pm. I went with my daughter and will say it's a really nice store. The fishing section is pretty extensive. Understandably at this time of year not much Ice Fishing gear but I really didn't expect any. The plastics selection for Bass was huge! This is a welcome addition to local shopping. It's about half the ride for me that Bass Pro is......hopefully they will keep each other honest pricewise. Grand opening is tomorrow at 1000.  -Scott

I heard thursday too.  Looks to be the same size as the store in E Hartford.  I can already fell my wallet shrinking.

It baffles me to no end that I go to the East Hartford store and can't find what I am looking for, frequently.  If possible I prefer to do business with a local shop.

For big purchases I usually call ahead and if they don't have it in that store the customer service reps are usually pretty good at getting shipped to your desired location.  For things like terminal tackle and stuff like that I usually have better luck at a local shop.

I'd usually stop in to check out the bargain cave on the way home.  It can be a tough store to find things in sometimes.  In my travels for work I try to stop at local shops when I'm nearby.  I have my yuppy uniform on though, so I don't usually get much out of em in the way of fish stories.

    I did the early tour few days ago It's decent.  Better than not having one.  Me and my bro just got some amo and odds and ends.   Took a look at a smoker.   The food process section is the most inviting to me.  I cut a lot of deer  ;D.  I already have a comm grade grinder and jerky set up.  just need the foot pedal.    There is ZERO ice gear/ ice electronics until next fall.

Yup.  Cabelas never offered to leave bait outside for me at 2am...also annoys me when I ask for something specific like a rigging needle and they have no idea what it is...

Better us during the striper season when I try to get 60# floro leader and there is none there!  Seriously? 

I've pitched Cabelas corporate office the software I sling to make a living, their infrastructure is good enough that they can do a better job with supply chain....

Yup local shops will get most of my business but its good to have Cabelas there for the stuff local guys don't carry.

Went to the preopening on Sunday and wasn't impressed its just like bass pro but smaller. They have some different items like savage sand eels but nothing really to special. I think it will be good because it is closer than bass pro to me. Would rather pay a few extra bucks and give a local tackle shop owner the business.

This is a win for me. Although I buy most of my tackle online, this will help when I need to get hands on something. it's less than half as far as BassPro. BTW, when is this thread going to get locked for talking about a retailer that isn't a sponsor?  :P
