Flint pond
« on: Mar 23, 2015, 03:34 PM »
Howdy all. Thinking of hitting Flint with my buddy Saturday. How's the ice holding up? Edges? Should I bring a plank? Thanks in advance for saving me a long ride

I haven't been over there but I've been fishing nearby lately. I would NOT drive there without a plank. From past experiences there, the edge goes fast, real fast! Hopefully someone has been there this past weekend and can say for sure. Its gonna be real warm with a little rain towards the end of the week (last I saw). Good luck 👍 Stay safe 👍👍Keith

Jeff, one of those guys was the one that forgot his chisel at ripple. I saw him Friday morning, he stopped to get hid chisel from me and was heading over to flint. I was surprised to hear they are still getting on at the ramp. Hopefully it lasts for those wanting to go there again.

I would guess with the rain and warm weather later in the week the water will go up quite a bit and you will need a long plank or boat to get on.

Yup that ramp usually goes quick. So shallow there. We'll se what the rain does. I might try Indian Lake if I can still get on it. I'm thinking the beach area should hold up.

Fished it two weeks ago with 2 dozen or so flags- 10 perch 4 bass 4 pickerel and 1 big bull head.  No signs of pike but did meet someone that is a member of this forum.

I miss fishing Flint. Need to get back there. Those edges are a pain though. I had to float my sled across and then run down the wall at the ramp and jump once. Don't ask how I got off.
Cheers,

Pete

Friend of mine claims to have lost a giant pike at the hole on indian a few weeks ago. Hes not one to tell stories and called me almost crying when he lost it.  I never fished it feel like I would be chasing ghosts.

x2. There is most definitely still a healthy reproducing population of pike in there.

Go over the guardrail and down the path, at flint and get on from there. The muddy area near the ramp is unsafe late season. Went. Thru there last season. The mud softens the ice there.
Tight lines!

How did the ice in that area survive the monsoon?

I was on 6" of snow ice over 6-8" of black at a local spot today.  Edges are going, will need a plank moving forward unless you want wet feet.

Flint is all done fyi  stopped at the ramp today edge was out 30ft then small section of ice then huge swath of open water.  May still be accessible from back but Quinsig is dumping into there pretty fast I wouldn't trust it and I push the limits sometimes.
