Rubber band trick ?
« on: Mar 22, 2015, 02:51 PM »
I've tried the rubber band trick like others have told me to do in by Brown trout post. I've been  using small circle hooks hooking the rubber band on and reeling up about 10 ft of line. When ever  I get a flag the fish runs until it hits the rubber band and I lose the fish.I've tried putting a small notch in the rubber band so it breaks easier but still nothing. Any help?

If your bait is missing then it's most likely yellow perch running with bait in its lips. That's my guess.

That type of Circle hook in order for it to work it needs to be swallowed  I use English bait hooks for better hooking chance with out have to wait for the fish to swallow it.  They have  great results of hooking when the fish grabs the bait and not deep in its mouth .  I have found that the hook is easier to take out of the mouth and it does not damage small fish to be released. I send away on line .I found LL Beans and Cabalas don't carry hooks like these any more . Fly tiers use them for Nymphs.  I like #6 and #4 for traps.

Try using smaller bait and smaller hooks. Try hooking lightly on or just behind the head. Mosquito hooks are easy to get a nice light hook behind the head.
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

Like Shrinkage  says a change will help . Also I like using two small shiner's and hook up tru both lips up tru bottom lip and out tru top lips. Two shiner's  are more active and the game fish will open wider and bite more aggressive.

I've been using sz.4 inline wide gap circles w/ med.\large smelts and had good luck w/ them. a few gutted it but most in the corner of the mouth. hook the bait closer to the head.

Any of your hook suppliers for Perch, Crappies Trout,Salmon I like size #6    type   37140 Box of 100  for traps. If you can find jigs Horizontal type made with that type of hook you will like those for jigging

Mustad 37162 Gold Wire Gap English Bait Hooks

Ever since hook production started in the 1870s, Mustad has manufactured an impressive number of different fish hook patterns for a vast array of fishing methods. Such a long history and experience has given us invaluable knowledge about what it takes to perfect a fish hook for a specific type of fishing as well as all round freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Mustad has manufactured hooks since 1877, but now the company has made an effort to be able to offer all the tackle you need when you go fishing. MUSTAD hooks are made from premium hi-carbon steel, which gives the hooks maximum strength. MUSTAD’s unique tempering process ensures even strength and high quality. Before being tempered the hooks are forged, which in this context means that the hook wire is a bit compressed. By doing this, the strength of the hook is increased by over 30%!
