Neals pond
« on: Mar 22, 2015, 09:55 AM »
Hey just went up to Neals pond in Lunenburg this morning hoping to take the kids out. Ended up buried in a foot and a half of slush with the snow machine. Unhooked the sled and tried to find hard surface. The whole lake is covered in it, I wouldn't recommend any one try that lake until we get either another long cold snap, or a serious melt off.

thanks for the heads up on magog, that was gonna be my next option. Might have to break out the snow shoes and Bay runner to try and stay on top. I think what hurts the most is the $20 worth of bait that I have to throw out by Tuesday if it doesn't harden up  >:(

What Light Liner said, 25" of solid ice yesterday, and glare ice.

would love to come over to Champlain, that's a 2 hour drive though so the kids probably wouldn't be coming, and I have no idea where to go.

if you make your way here..... I don't know what youre going after, but me and the family eat very well after fishing trips in the grand isle bays. Perch, the bigger ones, are making a way into the shallows now. lots of smelt in their guts too. and nice pumpkinseeds too. I usually release all my seeds over 9" so there there if you want them  ;)

This is the time of year and there's still good ice.

Fished Neal Pond early Sat. morning till mid afternoon had the place to our selves brought the snow shoes and it definitely made a difference walking. What was mentioned in post above with the slush and at least a foot of snow mad for real difficult time walking with out the snow shoes ice was close to 30". The weather was great temperature wise and so was the fishing,we were targeting perch so I picked up a cup of perch bait and 2 dozen medium heavies. Ended up with just over 2 dozen fat yellow perch for a fish fry and three northers 27"-32" the Northerns hit the smallest of perch bait and caught on the traps and released nothing with the jig sticks.I was going to try Sunday but the wind was brutal so we stayed in the camp  saw a few people attempt to fish and one gentleman and his dog stick it out.
