2014-2015 Ice Season...it was a dandy!
« on: Mar 17, 2015, 06:07 PM »
Well the season is over and it was a great one. I did not post pics much until the end of the season, so here are pics from November 2014 to March 2015. Pretty much pounded them all season. I can not think of one day where I or We went out and did not come home with a mess.

Nice fish.  Disappointed you didn't share throughout the season.

Wow that's a lot of fish!  I remember the days when I measured my success by the quantity of fish I caught. Great fun.

Was that before you started raising your own trophy pond fish like farmers raise livestock for 4H? That's a full time job what your doing. Pretty cool though your definetely getting some pigs in the pond.

You have it 1/3 correct. I measure my success by quantity, quality, and the ability to stay on a consistent bite. I fished 7 different public lakes this year and was able to catch quality and quantity at each spot.

Yes it was. In the six years I've been raising fish, I have yet to raise a trophy. I have caught hundreds of 9-10 inchers though, and they are a lot of fun. It was also about the time I discovered that a 9" bluegill, once harvested, somehow never became a 10" bluegill.

You know when a guy is proud of his catch when he lays them all out individually! Thanks for sharing.

Fishslayer looks like it was a successful and most important safe season for you. Enjoyed the pics. Only 9 more months we can start drilling new holes.

Well you definitely live up to your name. Great piles,a lot of cleaning I hope? I thought I keep to many fish. Just curious how in the world do you consume that many fish unless theres a bunch of you guys sharing the catch. Nice pics.

Trust me no fish are ever wasted. You would be surprised how many people luv fish and do not go out and catch them. Also Stinkybaits hosts a couple fish fries at his bar every year.

Good to here, I hope your fishery holds up.  Mine's going down hill, couple of years ago 9 inch gills where keepers, now Anything over 8 is a homer. Over fishing, and the combo of keeping to many giant bulls hurt it. Maybe I should keep smaller fish like 7.5- 8 inches and release the giants. Like the infishermen guys say. Hard to do,but may consider next year.

We spread the harvest out over 7-8 lakes...fisheries doing fine. 7.5-8" gills do eat better anyway, so not a bad idea.

Good season for you.  I looked back at my records for the season.  It was very good for me also.  I only had one day that I didn't bring home fish to clean.  I choose to keep between 20 - 25 each day.  I could have cleaned at least 80 a day if I wanted to.  Too much work.  Lots of people enjoyed the fish that I gave them.  All ready to clean just needed cooking.  Those gals at the senior center love them.

sweet! share some pics next year Dan! I like to see catches...nothing wrong with keeping 20-25, that's all I would do if I did not have a couple guys that want me to bring them fish routinely!
