Saturday morning, Icedogg and I made a little road trip to a lake that has treated us well in the past. I was really leery with all the warm conditions and rain we had leading up to Saturday but my contact over there said we should be good. On the way over I was getting pretty discouraged seeing all the standing water in the fields and the creeks flooded but we persisted.

When we got to the lake and pulled into the parking spot there was only one truck there. I rolled down my window and instantly recognized the guy. We met this guy on another lake that we ventured to on some intel that big perch roamed the lake. Anyway, we walked across a board and he did a little spudding and I mean a little. He barely hit the ice with the spud and proclaimed it "good"! We headed back to the truck and I told Icedogg: "when we get across the board I want you to smack the S%$t out of that ice with your spud and I'm following". The spud plunged through about 4 inches of slop and hit ice. 4 or 5 more hard whacks and she went through. "A good 6 inches we figured" and headed out.

For three hours it poured on us and my old pair of Guide Gear let me know it was time to replace it but it wasn't that bad because the fish were biting. Later the fog cleared and the sun came out which slowed the bite a little but when we came off the ice we had our limits with some pretty good action in between.

After checking the forecast and seeing that the temp was going to be below freezing for a good 4 hours during the early morning, we decided to find a motel and hit it again in the morning. The next morning the ice was tight and we didn't feel nearly as uneasy as the day before but we had still lost a good 2 inches of hard ice from the previous day. The sun popped up, we banged some fish and then it got sloppy. After a few hours in the slop we headed off and the ice was giving and I was worried. Luckily we stayed dry but when we hit the bank I told Dogg that someone was going through and sure enough about 3 hours later I was told that someone took the plunge but made it out.

Good times, good friends, and good fishing. I can't believe how many people just assume the ice is safe without checking for themselves. Its been a good long ice season, can't wait for next year. Pic of my fish from my last day and a half of fishing. Good way to end it

It was spooky,thats for sure,there was 12 of us on the ice when he went through,in a mater of 10 minutes we were GONE........Thanx Mark and Tony

I have know idea why I put an i instead of a y.
btw....how much fish slime has that thing had on it over the years. I just put two and two together and think I may want to start thinking about a new place to lay out the bibs and parka!
