gulp minnows
« on: Mar 06, 2015, 12:25 PM »
I have had some luck fishing the small gulp minnows under a jig for the crappies and perch. Curious how many others have used this method. Better hooked thru lip or body? I am also a big fan of the gulp spikes. Often work better than the real deal.

I've had gulp work real well in certain applications, and work poorly in others.   for panfish, I think regular plastics are better - if you compare head to head, a lot of times crappies and bluegills will just peck at gulp products, yet the same fish will inhale regular plastics or the real thing.

Where gulp HAS worked REALLY well for me, is jigging walleyes in moving water, drop shotting smallmouth in the summer, and light tackle stripers, bluefish, and bottom fish in saltwater.

they work great for drop shotting either perch or smallmouth in open water - never tried them on the ice

Had a strong bite on crappie last Friday, was using Clam plastics spiiki all day. Just about to quit and a gill ripped it off so I put on a gulp minnow and banged 5 decent keepers in the last half hour. I thread it on a small 100th oz leadhead jig. They work great in the spring rigged the same way but under a bobber.
