water bugs
« on: Mar 06, 2015, 01:50 AM »
I was fishing Long lake in Valpo twice in the last weak and the first time I had a water bug come up in my ice hole
and start swimming around.  I have never seen that before.  I went again yesterday and had more water bugs swimming in both holes.  Is common this time of year?  I also caught fish 3 ft under ice in 15ft of water and suspended at 7 to 8 ft.  They were all bluegills.  Just wondering if anybody else was seeing these bugs.  I have pictures of them if anybody wants to see them.

Probably a good sign. The fish will follow the bugs. Good luck and would like to see a pic of the bugs too.

never seen those on ice, but this time of year, we get some little flying black bugs hatching coming up iceholes, and some times through cracks in the ice.

That a weedy body of water?

I haven't seen them yet but stoneflies should hatch soon too if my memory serves. Not the same but the bugs are coming and the ice will be off before we know it. Soak it in. Pretty quick it'll be time to pour jigs and make up some spinners. Bittersweet.
