Teach's set up looks very efficient! Specialized long rods? There is an older gentleman down here...that's fished for years, that has a similar set up. Uses two long rods and has sled/box seems to work just fine, cause he catches fish...no electronics either.

Congratulations Teach for putting the smack down "old school" style.

All the new tech. will not hold a candle to the wiley ways of a seasoned angler. I remember those days and although you have a few more years under your belt, I miss the simplicity of schooley's, the lantern keeping my hands warm and cleaning saw dust out of the bottom of my wooden box!

Not for hijacking the thread but just to add nostalgia and a way to say...Way to go Teach!

I like the old school approach also, for its sheer simplicity. Having said that however, If myself and another angler were placed on a BOW that we had never fished before, there were no other anglers present, no old holes or signs of activity, we didn't have a map, and we each had four hours to see who caught the most fish, I'm going to reach for my electronics. I can catch without batteries, but I'm not to sure of my finding abilities in that regard, at least on unfamiliar water.  I remember the days of dropping the plumb weight and seeing what came up with it.

Nice job Teach!

Marmooskapaul- well yeh! L for left and r for right! I'm old and get confused!!! Got tired putting the wrong glove on the wrong hand. ::)
Jigmup- I watch guys work flashers and do really well and it's great knowing if your over fish. But if I'm catching them, I know they are there too! ;D
Caught everything on Moxy Jigs with bee moth. I don't worry about color as I'm color blind anyway.
Fished 10'-12' of water. Caught 2 two cranks off the bottom, the rest up high. Several 2 feet below the ice. Most hits were dead sticking after jigging with rods in holders. They hit like "dinks", just a little "tap tap". But they were good ones.

Dead sticking, not much of that going on anymore!  I've wondered a couple times this year if I've been moving my lure too much.

I don't use a flasher and I caych plenty of fish. Some people just aren't happy being outdoors on the ice.

Jigumup- I had another suit before this one but had it cut off by paramedics after I fell through ice about 30 years ago!!!
Roeboat- had another friend with us with Vex and he could see fish, he said they would come up to jig, as soon as he moved it, they were gone ?? They were really goofy. Had only one fish thump it when they sucked it in.
I think next couple of warm days will turn them on.

Teach what is the orange handle thing on your box with the grey thing on top and is that some type of vent on the side of your box or some type of paper looks 8.5x11 with maybe some print. Nice looking setup though!

Oh, Stinky, there you go again with the color thing ;D It's a piece of PVC pipe I attached to my ice scoop so I can clean the hole without getting up off my box! I painted it orange because I could. The silver on end is duct tape to keep handle from sliding off my box. My buddy tells me I have too much time on my hands!!!!

The white thing is a picture of an ice fisherman that Friends Of Fishing is selling for $4.00 in remembrance of our Dear buddy Felix Duron, procedes going to the family.

That's a heck of an idea on the scoop teach! Awesome for Felix's pic too. Never met him bit messaged back and forth a few times on FB. Great loss to the world. Looks like he helped a ton of people from what I read.

Good memories. I've been telling my dad ice fishing stories when I see him at the nursing home, invariably he asks me about his old Refrigiwear suit. I tell him it's warm!
