Schooley Reel Dimensions
« on: Mar 03, 2015, 03:42 PM »
Want to try a schooley reel out next season. I want to put it on a rod with a 4" cork handle. I was wondering if anybody knew the diameter of the reel and the length of the mounting bracket?

The spool is 3 1/4"in diameter. The mounting bracket is about 4 1/8" long.

is there enough room to trim the bracket to make it fit if it is too long for my handle?

I like the end with the hole that the line goes through, but if you take off the spool, you could cut off part of the back and drill a new screw hole  under the spool. I have seen rods without the part with the line guide hole, they seem to work. It's nice to have some handle outside of the reel. Maybe you could make a new handle out of a broomstick.or turn a fancy one of you have a lathe
