cheating at tourneys
« on: Mar 02, 2015, 10:04 AM »
After reading about the guy in Vermont who got caught trying to cheat I was wondering what people's views were about it.       I don't do tournaments for that reason.

My view?  I think they should be banned from any future tourneys.

The thought of guys possibly cheating would not keep me from entering tournaments. Unless the tourney sponsors were in on it.
Its not about the $ for me. When I enter them (1 a year or so) I never do so with the expectation to win $. That being said I am making as much of an effort to catch fish every time I go out. Whether I have to drill a ton of holes or walk that extra 1/4 mile to the spot.
I do like the added bonus of possibly winning a couple bucks though and it changes it up a bit. I like busting my fishing partner's stones though that I'm going to bring home the bacon on the next flag.
If a guy has to cheat, then really what is he at the end of the day? I know I'm going to sleep well at night. It'd be funny to see them get a rash of crap from guys though - Putting them on the stake for everyone to see.

maybe   because  i'm old  school  or  because  i'm a  poker player  ....I  think the  other  people  playing  should have taken  whom  ever out  on the  ice  for a  very  up  front and  personal  conversation

cheating is  stealing

That's why I hate tourneys and won't do them.  Good on the director for catching him red handed!  I just wonder who his friend was.

X2! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^  Awhile back they caught a guy cheating at a local shad fishing contest, but not until after he had pocketed almost $10k from past years!
What happened--Banned from future contests, but got to keep the money because they couldn't prove he cheated on the prior fish.

Forks of the Delaware shad contest, Easton Pa. From what I understand, there was lead being inserted into the fish between the skin and the flesh, and they were weighing a little on the heavy side!!! ::)
Can't do that anymore, so maybe just inject water into the meat! Where there's a will there's a way; unfortunately!

They should be arrested and charged with fraud and have there pictures posted on every site on the internet and in the fish and game handbook because if there cheating in a tournament they probably cheat at other things

I don't do any tournaments, between cheating and all the other BS, it is not worth it... I figure all the competition I need is between me and the fish!

Cheating at tournaments is not a new thing, many years ago they caught a guy that had filled a striper with mercury... That got the weight up!

aj How do you think the Patriots beat my Eagles in the 2005 Super Bowl.  They deflated McNabb's head and inflated T.O.'s head.

A number of years ago a striper caught in the Martha's Vineyard Striper Derby was found to have a number of lead weights in its stomach.  Turns out they were probably not a result of cheating, but of the bass eating a number of "Yo-Yoed" baits and breaking the line.

I still maintain its much too easy to keep a big fish alive for an extended period under the ice.  How on earth do you counter that in an ice tournament?

Quitting tourney fishing because someone, somewhere was caught cheating makes about as much sense as giving up sex for the same reason.

I used to have a similar mindset about tourney's. Hearing of these cheaters getting caught actually is appealing to me. It's when they aren't getting caught that we have to worry.
I'd fish anything put on by this James Vladyka dude that busted the cheater on Bomaseen. Just sayin'!

I fish a couple tourneys a year, winning one or placing typically just means a free day on the ice in the tourneys i get in.. they are more about fun with a little competition and some bragging rights.. But i can imagine with some of the bigger payout tournaments the real shady folks come out out of the woodwork..

With that said, i just stick with the tourneys benefiting a good cause.. Generally the prize moneys arent high enough to bring out the low lifes..

With my ice fishing skill level, Paying to enter a tourney would be a stupid tax.  I'm way too good at finding 3" perch.

i do certain tournaments that will help back the fisherman or real good causes. its fun and competetive win or lose. the cheaters well thats been happening forever. we must as fisherman see to it that they cant cheat and help out the organizers of the derbies. some rule changes would help also.
