She aint even cleared her throat for us yet.  26 inches here in God's Country.  -20 windchills last week.  Back in the deep freeze tomorrow.  Good thing we like ice.

Just make it till March 20th so I can get my yearly ice fishing trip in  ;)

We still got a couple of weeks. Everybody knows all good things must come to and end. Really how long do you expect to ice fish. Here in Pa.  we had a long great season. Two years in a row,3 months that's a long season here in the southern ice range.

The West Arm is part of Lake Nipissing which runs off the western end of the lake.
About 40 miles west of where I'll be on the lake on the South Bay.

She was starting to sing when we had about a week n' a half of warm temps & wind. The shore was blown out at one of the lakes I fish & I couldn't get on the ice. Haven't even tried since. Weather has been much more favorable lately though & I'll be heading out 2morrow to give it a shot. Forecast here for next week don't look good.....low to mid 50's & damn near 60 on one of the days. Getting to be that time of year I guess !!

Not even close here, going down to minus -20°f regular temperature here tonight again. They say we could hit 30°'s here this weekend first time in a month or longer. But I bet it won't get above freezing out on the lake at ice level.

I caught my trophy 53 1/2" musky in the West Arm.
I also caught my two biggest large mouth there.

I will be fishing in April.

...in the BOAT.

Heck, I could do that today.  Short ice season this year for us.  Sent all our cold to the East.  Enjoy it!

I'll be out this weekend but the long string of 50-60 degree days forecasted beyond that will keep me off the ice. Here's to prepping the boat for a wonderful open water season

There are a couple spots here that will hold ice through the next week, have to see the forecast beyond that to see for sure how long it will last. Shaded spots 24/7 and always end up with about a foot more ice than other spots each year. Otherwise it will be just like last year, 20-24" but no way to get on without a canoe.

I was up at Lake Nipissing last weekend.
With these warmer days the apox 2' of snow on top of the ice (over almost 3' of ice) is turning to slush making travel pretty bad.

I checked out our ice situation today,it has went from 8" to two inches in a week or so.The 2" is too soft to fish, but too hard for busting a boat through. Now I have had enough of winter,it's not going to make more ice,so it needs to scoot on out of here and allow me to slide the kayak into some soft water crappie fishing.

I'm hoping to have ice in Vermont for another couple weekends at least. Last year we had over two feet of ice in April!

Hung it up for the season Friday. Planned on fishing until way after dark. Unfortunately wife called me at 5pm, told me she had an accident in mall parking lot in Appleton. Jeep was not drivable so I had to go pick her up. Was actually on the fish good for a change to. Ice was thick yet but not looking good. Sucked just drilling holes. Almost down to auger head tho. Took canvas off the otter and started putting ice stuff away yesterday.

She is  only tuning up in Western NY.  Caught 37 real nice jumbos this last Sat 3/12 and will be out again this coming Sat.   The warmer temps and little rain this past week only melted the snow on top the ice.  Still have good shore snow cover and plenty of good ice.

Keep on hauling
