De soto bay best spot to start 8 to 12 feet of water and every kind of fish on river will be there.

Started at 9AM hit four different backwaters drilled about 50 holes all together (hand auger with 2.5-3 ft ice) finally gave up at 4PM and headed home with sore arms, stiff back and no fish. Only got one 4in bluegill. Not sure where de soto bay is at maybe try it again in couple weeks.

Army corp of engineers has decent maps. But I dont fish the river because insecure of where or how. I cant afford to do it often enough to learn it. Big river.

Hawk56 looking at going again in couple weeks. Would be great if I could find someone to go along with. Drilling that many holes by hand is hard on my arms!

Anyone ever tried ice fishing at Nobles island just south of Harpers Ferry? Or is there too much current there maybe unsafe ice conditions a lot of the time.

Too much current I think.  Never see anyone fishing around there myself.  Always wondered why also.
