Hey all. Curious if anyone jazzes up their deadbaits I.e. marinate them  in any secret potions? Any results positive and negative?

After I've used the same dead bait several times I will usually spray it with Gulp. I'm not sure how much pike hunt based on scent, haven't been able to find any information on it.

Bait I was using yesterday was seasoned/preserved in tons of kosher salt.

I keep my small dead chubs and put them in a power bait jar and top off with Berkley power bait liquid trout attractant and I have caught lots of trout that way I also do the same with my old power bait eggs that I pick up off the ground and take out of the stomachs of the ones I keep. I caught my biggest rainbow 22" on 2 old recycled eggs and a dead 5 day old 1" long chub marinated in liquid power bait.. I also recycle my mackerel that die saving in Ziploc bags then cover with garlic powder and  throw freezer for shore fishing and I have caught hundreds of stripers on them sent plays a big role I have outfished everyone around me when there using old freezer burt bait shop bait and I have my fresh frozen garlic scented I swear by it

Im a fan of fresh dead no nonsence.  They can be used for a few trips no problem best is to keep them in a zip lock bag in a snow bank or refrigerator. Try not to freeze and thaw them more than once.  I have used the salted baits as well just don't care for how pickled they look.

I dont freeze it in anything. Seems to work for me. I Have experimented with different scents in the past and it didn't seem to make much of a difference in the catch rate.

I usually freeze them with a bit of kosher salt.......don't get freezer burned........ Keeps them firm when thawed.......

herring and smelt oil are a close second.
