Smelt fishing today!!!!!!!
« on: Feb 28, 2015, 01:29 AM »
Heading up to Bakers this morning. We were able to get in with a group heading up last minute for an early tide. I'm hoping to get on a decent bite. I've never been smelting before, so I'm pretty excited. Have a few jig rods and a D-handle of Crown Royal packed up. I'm pretty sure that's all I'll need for the day. Lol. With any luck, I'll have some good pics to post.

Went to Bakers(after research def the best place to go) last tues night w kids, it was awesome- only got 25 smelt but they are tricky.  A lot of shacks got goose eggs, some got 40+.  Watch your lines close, you def miss as many as you catch - Tasted sooooo good and kids had a blast- good luck!!
Tastes like friggin' burnt rubber but it'll get you efffin lit!

Good luck!....Curious to see if the bite picks up as we get into March..went up last thursday to 'James Eddy'..got 32 and missed as many..got almost all of them on Sabiki rigs...tastee buggers they are..also froze some up to use as bait...will likely go up at least once more if the bite picks up...    TR

We stayed for 2 tides. Picked up over 30, missed way more. We used jig rods and some of their rigs. What a blast! Saw lots of fish on the Marcum. Picked em up one or two at a time with no real runs to speak of. I would go again for sure.
