Headed out to Little Round Top Pond (upper one w/dam ?) with a buddy today to jig for trout. What a bust that was. Thank god we only had to go about 75 yards from the parking lot with very minimal gear i.e. small sled, auger, a little bit of wood, jig rods, and a couple of little other things. Snow drifts up to our hips.
Auger ran like crap but managed 4 holes(barely) buried the auger all the way to the gearbox before we hit water and when we did I think we hit the bottom of the pond 'cause nothing but mud and weeds came out of the hole! When we actually tried jigging I really don't think we were below the ice, I think I was just jigging in the auger hole column. I think there was only like 6 inches of water from the bottom of the ice to the bottom of the pond. Cold as hell, sideways snow a hot venison stew and yup still enjoyed ourselves. A couple of DOT trucks pulled into the parking lot for a break (I guess) me and my buddy got a good laugh figuring those guys probably thought we escaped from Zambaronno.
