Another great trip to Ross Lake Camps
« on: Feb 24, 2015, 03:07 PM »
Just got back from another great trip to Ross Lake.  We fished 3 days with Don, Andrea and Bill catching around 60 fish.  We mostly caught lakers however we did catch half a dozen brookies around 18" and an white fish.  12 of the lakers were over 5 lbs including a 7 lb, a 7.25lb  and a 7.75lb.  The weather was a little tough and we ended up staying another day due to weather however the food and company were great so a great time was had by all.

Awesome trip Nosaj.  :)
Some dark trout up there.
Sounds like heaven at Ross Lake (wouldn't try to spell the real name) with the Lavoies.
How were the roads?
Did you have to sled in to the camp?
Congrats on the fishing.

Congrats on the fishing.

They are dark.  We actually did catch a couple light ones however most were the medium brown color with a few real dark ones mixed in.

You cannot tell from the picture but the halos on the brookies are so big that they touch.

The Lavoies are great,  We go for the full meals and guided trip, that way we only have to bring bait and beer.  They cook all the meals including bringing lunch out on the ice, put us on the fish and do most of the work like checking the baits, backing up the spools and tying on hooks.  It is like being little kid fishing with your dad, I wouldn't want to do it all the time but on a guys trip like this, it is a blast.  Everyone in our group fishes regularly so we all work as a team putting out the traps, catching the fish and picking things up.

The roads were interesting, we had a few near misses with the logging trucks and only got stuck on the side of the road once.  It is good to go with two trucks for just that reason.

You park about 3 miles from camp and ride from there.  We did spend a few hours during a weather day boondocking in 18" of powder ;D

Last year was our first year and we will be heading up again next year.

Another great time for you boys. Maybe next year? Great looking fish. I see that Duc Dynasty Jim has that beardnest in full bloom.  ;D  How much snow was up there? Doesn't look too bad on the ice.

It was cold however not much different than here.

We did get blown off the ice one day however we extended the trip for a day and did some unbelievable boondocking in 18" of powder over 18"-24" of hard base.

Duc Dynasty was in full force and caught the biggest fish which went 7.75

They had 6"-8" of snow on the ice and 27"-30" of ice.

From what I understand the real dark lakers are just in Ross (Chemquasabamticook) and Alagash lakes.

Jiggin, your not the only one who thought that.  One of the new guys slept with one eye open and kept his drink close at hand hoping to keep it Roofie free :o

Coffin, No copy and past here.  It is actually spelled like it sounds.  I broke it down to learn how to say it and realized that it was easy to spell   Chem qua sa bam ti cook  ;)

Now what does it mean?

Chemquasabamticook Lake: (Abnaki) "where there is a large lake and rocks"
and some very nice fish.
