Looking for info on the derby
The derby is the 28th and the 1st. Weigh in is 7am-4pm on Saturday and 7am-2pm on Sunday with awards following at the forestport fire hall. The measuring station/ sign up will be at the Alger island access. You can also sign up prior to the weekend at the Wigwam tavern on Rt28 just north of forestport on the left hand side, or at Sledworks directly across the road from the Wigwam. I know lake trout, LL salmon, pike, tiger muskie, and perch are in it. I may have missed a species.

Are there restrictions as to where you can fish during the derby? Alger island access is the furthest south you can be on Fourth.. I like to fish up near Inlet and rocky point/dollar island area

That's awesome that all four lakes are included! I don't know of any public access to 1st 2nd or 3rd.. Is there any at all??

If you're going to want to access lakes other than 4th, a snowmobile is a must. There is a sled trail access onto 3rd lake, but its hard to find. I recommend getting on 4th and go either direction from there.

Also, remember its a long ride to the measuring station, so be prepared in order to release fish. Good luck.

I'll be on the lake at first light. How many people have already entered in the derby?

The bite was slow for me both days.. Yesterday the sun was the problem, today I'm not sure what the problem was. Managed two Lakers just over 25" that returned to swim another day.. No more ice for this guy. Pack it all up for the year

That's a nice one Pmac! Here is a pic of mine. It was a touch over 30 inches. It took about 10 minutes to revive him, but he took off with a strong kick. I would've had a guilty conscience for awhile if I had to have kept it. Glad it made it!

Nice! Mine was also just over 30", about 30 1/4. Hooked cleanly in the top jaw. I usually use circle hooks for catch and release purposes but found if I am setting right under the ice, I lose a lot of fish. Size 10 trebles when I'm not fishing bottom.
