Anyone been on the ice south of Springfield today?  Curious is it is safe. Thinking of a bluegill pond this weekend

Fished a pond today close to home and it had 3 in of ?able ice.  There was a shaded area that was holding 4 in of ice that I fished.  So be careful its not real safe.

Fished a pond south of Jacksonville Sunday. It had thawed out but had 4" where we drilled. Wish we hadn't gotten this snow.

This pond I was on had 2 in of clear ice on bottom then a layer of water and on top was an inch of cloudy white soft ice.

2" is pretty iffy, not sure I would do that especially if it had snow on it. That's a lot of weight to support. 4" keeps me thinking and listening for cracking and popping.

I stayed off the ?able ice and only fished the edges with solid 4 in of ice.
