Augers and cars
« on: Jan 30, 2015, 09:49 PM »
Looking to pick up an auger this weekend, but concerned about the fact that I drive a corolla.  Does anyone else out here not have a truck and haul their auger around in the car? Any and all thoughts on transport options would be most appreciated! Thanks y'all!

Buy a battery powered auger. No need to worry about leaking fuel.

You didn't specify power or manual, I'll assume a power auger.
Keep the blade guards on
Disconnect powerhead from flighting
Put the powerhead in a plastic tub about the right size.
Go fishing

2X

I put mine in a milk crate, bungee cords from the handle around the outside to the opposing side, two cords for each handle, one for the right side and one for the left side.
Unless you drive like "fast & furious" it won't tip.

I've got two augers and they're both electric. I'm not some granola enviro wacko. I just don't like getting gas smell on my clothes and hands when I'm trying to catch fish.

I've got a Dodge Stratus(In college, have other bills that take priority) and the rear seats fold forward. I rest the auger bit on the back of the seat and put the power head in the trunk. I just make sure something is propped against it so it won't tip over.
Stay frosty.

Milk crate and bungees, perfect!

Strippin, it's on the list, for sure. Not sure when it'll happen, but it's my dream to have a MT appropriate vehicle!

Thanks again, everyone. Off to Sportsmans!

I bought a 5" mora hand auger and an adaptor for my cordless 18v Mikita. I went to Mary Ronan and used it for the first time. I brought five batteries with me. I only needed one battery! I drilled close to 40 holes! All I can say is awesome! Last thing I needed is another contraption with a carburetor. I wish I would have went 6", plenty of torque on the drill to handle the extra inch.  Hell of a lot cheaper too!

The other day I disconnected my batt, from my electric so I would not find carpeting wrapped around my flitting when I put it in the trunk. LOL!

Transport my eskimo in a buddys car when needed. Cap tight and layed down behind the front seats. Rides fine. My auger does not leak.
