I bought the adapter from cableas. Put the canisters in the freezer for a few hours. Your 20lb. tank should be at room temp. Attach empty canister to tank them turn upside down then open your 20 lb. Takes about 45 sec. to a minute. I listen until stops filling. Filp back over, disconnect an check for leaks. (Canisters should be completely empty first.)

Be careful.  It works.  It can be dangerous though.  I don't know if a store bought model will regulate the pressure but you can overfill a 1 lber.

20 lber must be warm at least room temp the 1lb tanks good and cold from freezer. sometimes u get one pretty full sometimes only 1/2 to 3/4 but that's ok better than 3.50 for a new one. I don't believe u can over fill one been doing this for years now and left the small tank on for a long time and it will only get as full as it will allow.

I refill my own, freeze the 1 pounder for a little bit keep the 20 pounder room temp, screw the little one onto the adapter turn upside down turn valve on you will hear it filling, takes a minute or less.... I got my adapter at ACE hardware

YouTube has all kinds of video demonstrations on how to refill 1 lb canisters from 20 lb tanks.

Just search the subject and you will see numerous videos.
