In the market for a fl-18 to make as my primary unit. Currently a Marcum user, but have had endless problems(all quickly fixed). Tired of crossing my fingers each time I power up. Have heard that the vexilar units are noisy? I assume this was with older units, but was curious if this was true. I enjoy my piece and quiet!

The FL 18 will most likely be louder than a Marcum.  All Vexilar units make some noise.  Not really bad unless something is wrong with the unit.  The FLX28 makes less than any of the others I have owned.

I have a recondition FL 20 with the tribeam going on three years with no problems at all. And it does have a soothing hum.

They aren't silent for sure.  But not noisy.  A gentle hum that you can count on every time you go out.

I've had my FL-18 since Christmas 2001 and it seems to be a little noisier nowadays than it used to be but it's still going strong. I suspect the brushes are getting worn from countless hours of use. Oh well, maybe I'll have to send it in for a rebuild someday but for now it's like Papa always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"  ;D

I have a 4 year old fl20 that has a hum, would not call it noisy. I think all Vex units have a hum but at this point I really dont notice unless im really paying attention
