Favorite knot?

I'm a big fan of the palomar although with the small eyes on ice jigs it can be challenging

I started using a Davy knot this past steelhead season in Northern NY. It's small and strong as can be

Still use the Palomar for braid connections but for my fluoro at the business end I use the the non slip mono loop.  Great knot.

double clinch for 90% of what i do,
I also like the seagur knot for mending fluoro to braid, very strong but can be difficult to tie well consistantly

The Davy (Wotton) knot, from the 1950's while quick and easy to tie, is very undesirable due to a retained strength of only 50% to 60%. See the link:   http://www.animatedknots.com/davy/index.php?Categ=fishing&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com

If the eyelet size permits a double line, the Trilene knot retains a very high proportion of line strength.    Trilene knot        ;)2

Landing a 12lb Steelhead using 6lb floro tells me the Davy will haul any "smaller" fish vertically through an ice hole :)

According to that TV show that tested all the knots the best knots are those were you loop the line through the hook's eye twice.  Like palomar and the clinch knot that you start that what, the Trilene knot?

I just tied the trilene know a couple times with some 550 cord and it seems like it's a winner! Will try it this weekend

Mine is the Surgeons Loop. It is all I use. Good for all hooks and jigs and tying multiple hooks to one line. Put the loop through the eye of the hook then over the end of the hook and pull tight.

Improved fisherman's for when a jig needs to be positioned a certain way, especially with mono.
Double improved fisherman's for braid.
Double uni for line connections of different sizes.
Kerf loop for natural hanging jigs.

i've started using a double surgeons loop for everything except my horizontal jigs and some drop shot rigs. i've also started using the palomar a lot more, though my old standby is still the plain-old clinch knot.

I lost a few slabs through the ice this season because I tried the double surgeons knot on 6 lb fluoro.  Both times it failed at the knot which suggests that fluoro doesn't stand up to the tensions this knot imparts.

I have been using the perfection loop and so far it hasn't failed.  It also offers better presentation when using natural and artificial baits.

Hopefully others will post some recommendations as I am sure there are better knots for fluoro.

Mostly I use a Trilene knot or improved clinch. But a doubled Davy knot is great for small diameter line and tippet. Especially if the hook eye diameter is a bit larger than the line. I find it easy to tie and a nice fly and jig knot.

I would love to use a trilene or palomar knot on my tungsten jigs but the hole is very small and I have enough trouble seeing to get just a single line (even 3#!) thru that hole.

Whenever possible I use a Palomar.

When I can't, I use the Trilene knot.

Tried Palomar knot for the first time last year and have been doing it since. Easy to do and stronger than my previous knot which was a triline but I only went through the eye once.
See you on the ice!

Palomar knot even on my smallest jigs! Just pass the line through the eye once then back through then finish your knot.

I use a knot that won a contest at Orvis...they dubbed it the Orvis Knot.  It does not provide for extra lure movement like the loop knots do but it is strong and easy to tie.

Favorite knot for what???

be specific, as different knots have different uses as well as different strengths and weaknesses.

Here's part of my list:

tying to spool - arbor knot
tying leader to fly line - blood knot
making my own tapered leader - blood knots
tying leader to swivel and to braid - modified cinch knot
tying leader to hook / snap swivel (for salt water jigs) - modified cinch knot
tying braid to swivel or jig directly - Palomar knot
tying circle hook with loop (for free movement) double surgeons knot
tying ice jig to main line - double overhand knot (helps keep jig horizontal)

I am a legend in my own mind!
