Jiffy 4G Lite Gas 4 stroke or Model 30 XT 2 cycle?
« on: Jan 27, 2015, 02:50 PM »
Hi. Girlfriend keeps hinting at a ring but I'm not ready, I need to spend some money so I have an excuse. It's time to upgrade my auger from the old tank I have.

Debating between the Model 30 XT 2 cycle or the 4G Lite gas 4 stroke, both in 8" models. The costs are similar. Weight is maybe 4-6 pounds different from what I can tell.

What do you think...
1. Is the 4 stroke lite engine as reliable as the 2 cycle? How about in the cold? Below 0 Fahrenheit isn't uncommon.
2. Is the weight difference worth it for the "lite"? I'm not a whimp, my current auger is 38 pounds and I drill until I find fish (up to 50 holes).
3. Will the 4 stroke lite be able to handle 3+ feet of ice?
4. Given the choice, which route would you go?

I've already ruled out Strikemaster, Nils, and Eskimo various reasons.
See you on the ice!

Get the 2 stroke, I don't see any advantage to a 4 stroke, yes they don't start as good in the cold

Compared to what? Ive seen 2stroke start on one pull and 40 pulls. Same with 4 strokes. Depends on how you take care of it.
