Thats what we are looking forward to. Jacksmelt71 fished this area yesterday and the slush was already making around the holes.

Hopefully the wind keeps most of it from accumulating on the ice.  If it doesn't it will be an absolute mess with no chance to make any more ice.

Not to worry as long as you have an XCR.  Just point and go, 2 ft. of snow, slush and even drag the shack.  >:D

with the very low temps coming next week wouldn't that just freeze the slush and create more ice?

looks like storm every 3 days for the next couple weeks...could be lots more snow

With the wind that we have around here we'll be lucky if the ice doesn't blow up into the woods.

I thought for sure the H.S. kids with their fast sleds would be out today to start beating a trail down on the lake, not a soul.  Don't know what's underneath it for slush, if any yet, but there are some definite moguls to jump that's for sure!  :woot:;D

Once there's a layer of slush under the snow it'll never freeze and no more ice will be made.  The snow insulates the slush.  The only thing that gets rid of it is rain to pack down or wash away the snow.

I think their will be plenty of slush for a while, even more slush when people start punching holes through the ice and letting the water up! 😢

We really didn't have that much ice in the bottom two-thirds of the State, with all the cracks, crevices, and holes, even 2' of "light snow" will have an impact.  Add another foot or two this coming week and I can see why all the portable shack owners are happy compared to us hard side guys. ;D

This storm friday has the potential to give us 40" of snow in 4 days......I'm sitting on 27" from tuesday right now and they already put up a winter storm watch for friday. Then we have a shot of more at beginning of the week........crazy.

It's definitely going to make ice fishing more of a challenge.  By next Tues there is a good chance a lot of lakes will have over 40 inches of snow on them. I'm heading out early tomorrow could be my last adventure for a little bit.

6-12 inches of heavy wet snow Friday night on top of the 24 inches we just got will make it interesting.

I got out today. No slush whatsoever, patches of bare ice between knee deep drifts. 2 feet of very solid ice.

With the weight of the snow on the ice as soon as a crack opens or someone drills a hole it will get slushy once slush forms under an even amount of snow . Best to pack a trail several machine width wide over night it will freeze solid . and make for a safe path . If one stops where slush is present it will be a problem until it has time to freeze. I've seen parties get caught in a foot of slush towing sleds and spend all day getting off the ice . If one leaves it it slush it will freeze solid and be a big problem..

cut a hole last night.  in one hour the water was 2" over the top of the ice.  3 hours later and there was slush 20' out from the hole.  the weight of the snow will cause some issues for sure.

What body of water was that and how much snow was on it ?  Was it Crystal lake ?
