My personal favorite species to catch while ice fishing is probably perch. Just the fast paced action that comes with targeting these species can keep me interested all day long. Just wondering what species you guys have passions for catching and why?

PIKE! Probably the most traditional tip up fish and your best chance at a giant is through the ice!

You see, Im the same way. I like the none stop action, when you can find them. Even bluegills and crappies can be the same way. I dont like sitting and waiting for the northerns and lakers to hit tipups. I dont even like using tipups for perch.

tough question i love northerns but with bait prices so high il stick with perch nothing like a school of slob perch

Still trying to figure it out. Haven't been at it long enough or caught enough different species to decide yet. Haven't caught anything that special yet either. Do like the consistent action of perch though. They definitely feel a lot better on a 28" rod.

Where do you catch sunfish? I always fish in weedy areas in 10 to 15 FOW, but I've only ever caught one pumpkinseed through the ice. I would love to get into a school of gills, regardless of size.

I love jigging lakers because of the fight they put up. I love catching Northern Pike on tip-ups because you can catch some real monsters.

Pike are the most fun during the day, but if its a multi day trip, eyes or trout because they bite at night too, so it makes getting up every 20 minutes worth it!

I love jigging up lakers with a traditional wooden jig stick. Jigging up smelt and perch is a close second. From what I hear, tip-up fishing for northerns is a lot of fun, so I'll have to try that this winter.

Lake Champlain 6-12 FOW.

I enjoy all fish. Like the challenge of going after a species that I havent caught before. 2 years ago I targeted white fish on champlain, It took me 3 times out to catch my first. My next species is Burbot... But that will be way easier to catch.

Trout in general! Love the challenge and fight they put up. Ill take not having to many flags a day to having a chance at one flag being a monster. Thats fun in my eyes!!

I have no favorite, like catching anything with fins coming thru the hole.
Ask me what I like to clean, well then, gators are my least favorite.

Right now I am enjoying catching almost anything through the ice! I have only been hitting the hard water for the past two seasons and like that I can target fish I can't normally reach during the open water season. It is a whole new world and I have caught the bug!

If I want to spend an entire day fishing for a species I may not catch, then it's trout, pike, salmon and lakers.

If I want to spend an entire day chasing flags and burning through all my bait it'll be bass and pickerel.

If I want to spend an entire day jigging up fish after fish until my arms ache and my bait is gone it's crappie, sunfish and perch!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the first category, but just stressing that they have been the most elusive for me.

I still try for them, but with limited success.
