I didn't see this water on the reports page.   Ice was 8" thick most places I fished the dam Saturday 1/17 Alot of planters several groups fishing.  Water is high and with current the ice is mushy on some of the edges on the far bank.  Small jigs and ice flies with mealworms or crawler bits.

One brown and many rainbows all smallish but fun nonetheless

Thanks, sounds like it might be worth the trouble.  As long as the ice is solid.

Ice was good and fishing was better.....we iced at least 100 fish today between three of us and would not be surprised if it was more...constant action between sunup and 300.   It was awesome.....

Nice to hear it has improved since last winter.  How is the ice and the access?

I have never spent much time up there,  is there good access?  Near the dam? Atv Or can I walk out?  Thanks for the report!

Machines not needed and the ice can vary in thickness and strength.  You can park at the power plant on the west and walk across the dam or you can drive past the dam about 2 hundred yards as walk out on the ice but you may need to park on the road.  I have been just parking at the gate of the power place.  But don't block the gate or the construction  folks (they're working on something)

Last year I was drilling holes and got three drilled all within about 20 feet in a line. The ice was a good 10 inches. Went to drill my 4th and the ice was only 4"!  For some reason Ashton always makes me nervous but I still enjoy fishing there.

Fished Ashton late morning on Saturday with my daughter who is home on leave. Good 10 inches of ice where we were by the dam. Caught a few small trout and just a few other bites. Pretty slow. Much better than Island Park where we were at that morning.

If you go be careful....Ashton gets sketchy fast.  I fell through last year. Around this time....fished good ice all morning and then moved spots fell through on my way to a new spot and again on my way off the ice.....
