Big River Fishing Derby
Fishing Derby Rules
1 Rules Committee decisions are final
2 SERM angling regulations apply, except only one line per hole is allowed
3 This is a Catch & Release derby – please handle fish carefully – fish must be alive in order to be weighed in. Fish head & gills must be submersed in water and immediately taken to the weigh-in station – hook may be removed at weigh station
4 Early Birds may enter fishing area at 11:30 AM to select their hole. Following the completion of all the hole selection the designated fishing are will be cleared for a 12 noon start
5 Each contestant may fish up to 2 holes at one time, but both fishing lines must be attended at all times by the registered contestant
6 Contestants fishing a second hole must be within 25m AND be able to see their fish line at ALL times
7 Each hole must have 1 pail to transport fish to weigh-in station and any other device to mark contestants’ hole
8 Only registered person can fish under that registration (no sharing of holes)
9 All contestants 12 and under must be accompanied by a registered parent/guardian
10 This is sport fishing event and ALL contestants must have a valid angling license
11 License must be presented when weighting in fish
12 In the event of a tie the earliest registered time wins
13 No alcohol on lake
14 Committee members are eligible to enter derby
15 No vehicles, snowmobiles or fish huts allowed in designated fishing area, except for police/emergency vehicles
16 Contestants must be visible to other contestants and officials at all times
17 Contestants will not be allowed to drill their own holes – all holes will be drilled by Derby committee and be within the designated fishing area
18 Contestants can not fish outside the designated fishing area prior to the contest start time
19 No lines allowed in the water until start time
20 Contestants may fish any hole that is not occupied
21 No electronic devices allowed
22 All equipment is subject to inspection
23 All derby rules and regulations and SERM rules must be adhered to. Violators will be disqualified from derby
24 No debris to be left on the lake – PLEASE DO NOT LITTER
25 Absolutely no refunds
26 Only one (1) prize awarded per fish
27 Prizes will be awarded to fish by size for the top 50 weights. In even of less than 50 fish prizes will be awarded by random draw of registered contestants
28 Non-cash prize winners MUST arrange to collect their prizes
29 Only registered contestants in designated fishing area
30 All entries must be weighable
31 Big River & District Improvement Association, SERM, Big River RCMP and any other members or committee associate with this Derby are not responsible for any injury, damage to property, theft, death or any loss which may have resulted before, during or after the Derby

Wow, that's a long list of "No's" a punched out grid of holes, less a fishing contest as a fishing lottery, I'll pass.

Best of luck though hope you have great weather and big numbers.  :tipup:

was thinking of going to this one but like the rules better for the Tobin derby.  Will be sticking with Tobin

It's put on by the Nipawin Hawks, it's in March and info can be found on the Nipawin Hawks website.

Are electronics allowed at the Tobin one? Didn't see anything in the rules.

The boys are just covering all their bases as they should!!!!! Even the fishing fraternity has it's scammers Daaaaaa!!! 99 % of us hopefully come out to support a good cause with the hopes of winning the big one . 50-50 etc. so lay off the organizers and come out and support their charity. That's what good Outdoorsmen are all about. See ya in Big River!!!

No electronics is fine with me. Evens it out for the guys without.  Rules are similar to the jackfish allthough there they allow wind breaks, and that is a very successful derby.
