Hard work pays off for those who put in the time!
« on: Jan 15, 2015, 08:50 PM »
I'm still speechless from what was looking up at me when it came up to the hole. I had a 12" hole and wasn't sure if I was going to get it turned up after several attempts.
Anyways, after about 100 hours on this lake of weening out smaller fish, I knew as soon as I set the hook that this was the fish I've been looking for. It just about tore my arm off, as you will see in the video, and Was so lucky I didn't get broke off when the back lash got rapped up around the spool! I've had a lot of help from an individual on here, who knows who he is, and has handed me knowledge most don't achieve in a lifetime. Most would say 100 hours is a long time, but for a fish like this, it's nothing. And I feel very lucky to have done this. I was alone fishing today, and I must say, running the camera and handling this fish was no easy task! So please take it easy on me about the end of the first video when I lay the fish down on the ice to switch my camera over. I'm not happy how I handled the situation but I didn't have much of a choice to get the proof! The fish measured 43"x23" and should be right around 25lbs. It was solid! Not like a mushy fat pike. This tiger was all power and let me know just that. The fish released perfect, and now I'm on the hunt for bigger! Enjoy. Jay

I hope you took the measurements to get a replica trophy made - you were alone today and that is special - also special is the nod to your mentor.  Nice work all around!
Trust me, when the Zamboni driver says "You won't catch fish through that hole", he knows of what he speaks.

Nice fish! I got a regular Muskie that looks just like that in 2013! mine was 44"x22" and had a 12" carp in its belly! Only issue with mine was it was on an 8lb fluoro leader fishing for perch

Thanks everyone! It's not easy, and you get lonely quickly putting in those long days with nothing to show for it. But then, once in a while you get to see a fish with markings like that. Makes it all worth while!

Thanks! I'm just glad I was able to get the video and pics. Otherwise it would just be another fish story! I make sure I have everything I need in my jet sled to land a fish as soon as I'm done setting traps. That way all I have to do is hop on my sled and ride to the flag. It's not easy when you're alone, but we gotta be out there!
