If its for the kids why not have it at a more family friendly time. 8am plus travel time likely means getting the kids up early. Also its typically the coldest time of day. Have if over the noon hour and have some food also. Numerous ways to make it more kid friendly.
Hopefully you have a good turnout.

It's FREE and yes one parent/guardian can register more than one child.

This age group would usually be up and going to school at that time anyway that early through the week. This is our first one and have no idea of turnout.. so buying a bunch of food with my the league doesn't neccessarily have isnt feasible this time. 3 hours of fishing shouldn't be to bad on them if they dress warm enough

Well then, maybe you should hold a kids derby for all ages, and see what it takes to do it.

But it seems you have the perfect opportunity to do that, Bud.   ;)

I'm not sure why your the only one complaining about the age catagories. So you have a 5 year old you'd like to take fishing..then take him/her fishing..just not in the derby. IMO if they're under 6 then they are still either an infant or a toddler... liability issues, insurances etc. are bad enough with adults, let alone children.. We are using our money to buy awards and our time to do something good for children, and you want to whine about it!  Like I said, you have no idea what it takes, so why try to ruin it for everyone else or future kids events by complaining. There might be a next year...complainers will determine that!!

I wish you the best of luck with your derby.  I am sure many children will have a great and memorable day!

As for my 5 year old, who is neither an infant nor a toddler, she will be on a lake somewhere else fishing and catching and making her own memories.  Or we could go to the derby and lie about her age...

Glad at least she'll be fishing. I'm not asking for birth certificates, but if anyone feels the need to lie and instill to their children that cheating is a good practice, it's on them not me. This isn't about us it's about the kids and making those memories just like you said!
