Drove by south end today about 10 guys out fishing. No idea of ice conditions. Nobody spudding. Stay safe people!

Just got off the ice, fished the south end, ice was 4.5 in 10fw and only 3 in 14fw did not venture out any further. Had a real good day ;) bucket of  slobasaurus, and they were not gills! Spud for life!

I saw the motorcycles ripping around on the webcam this afternoon. They were on the SW side. Be prepared to have them buzzing around this weekend. Get out early. At least to get a little bit of tranquility. Lol

I made my report on the reports side and all I can say is this season is just about the worse ever. A couple of days ago, the forecast looked great and I was fooled into believing we might make the trench yet this year, but now, with the warming up again and rain, I don't think so. The sun is out longer now too making it even more difficult. Honeoye was good to me earlier but only over deep water. Man, I hope I am wrong.

I agree. Probably will not reach the trench this year. Sun is getting higher. Days are getting longer

I did fine on gills yesterday. Gotta adjust your tactics, I caught a bunch of 8-9+" gills yesterday. They are there, and electronics help alot.

Fished 230pm-6pm fishing was tough but fish were there.  I didn't do well myself but plenty of guys were ending the day with limits.  Talked to a few guys that had fish in the bucket, most were there all day and moved around all day to get there limit.

Hey NJSFISHON? Ya still around?  How's your health? And if you still wanna get out I'm here.  Obviously last year's ice sucked and didn't have a chance.  PM me.

Any of you guys developed a concern about eating Honeoye fish since the summer algae blooms have become such an annual fixture each year?

I'm not dismissing you and I know where you're coming from.  But we're all screwed in NY imho. DEC website recommendations  for fish that can be consumed according to age/gender or just in general, is unbelievable.  Just the fact that they have limited recommendations at all is crazy.  Advising people not to eat what they catch or hunt due to health risks! Makes you think.

Well....I tend to think they (NYS) err on the side of caution and lawsuit avoidance. I, personally, plan to fish Honeoye for perch and walleye and I plan to keep and eat a number of meals. I've got a hint of reservation though.....but just a hint. I'm just wondering if I'm alone or if anyone can bring a greater depth of knowledge about the topic to the front.

But hey....I consume more Irondequoit Bay Walleye in a year than any other fish from any other body of water and thut hazznt seeeemd to uffekt meeee mooooch.

BG algae is considered to be harmful if consumed in such a way that you would be eating internal organs of fish, higher fatty parts, and the skin. It seems as though the flesh (fillet) does not accumulate the toxins nearly as well as the before mentioned parts of fish. If you use care when processing your fish so as to not rupture any internal organs, discard fatty areas and the skin it appears to be of little concern. Many of NY lakes only have a bloom for a short period of the year, that also helps reduce toxin levels as opposed to lakes with a much longer warm season. It is recommended to only eat a few meals a month of fish from these waters,, science has not shown a relation to human sickness from eating fish from BG algae waters, they are basing concerns on the effects of direct contact and consumption of the water from full bloom times of the year. Take care all.
