Thanks Big Ice Hole. So guys I got cabela's bucks burning a hole in my pocket.  I have a 2 man clam but I was thinking about downsizing to a single man.  Probably the clam xl thermal.  Question is, is it worth it to save some weight?  Or should I pass?
I have the Frabill Trekker Thermo - and just purchased the Clam Kenai Pro Thermo Stealth (ordered thru Gander Mt) - I wanted a light weight single hut (48 lbs)and so far I'm impressed as hell - I do a lot of sight fishing in the Niagara River and wanted it dark and quickly moveable.   Let me tell you  - this thing is DARK inside.   I've made repeated runs to Gander Mt to sit in the regular Kenia Thermo and back home to my  Stealth model. I glad I spent the money.   Excited - Already caught 528 perch through my basement floor!!!

Paddyo.  Are the Kenai thermal and thermal pro insulated all around? Or just on top?  I definitely want my next tent full thermal.  Also why I was leaning towards the legend xl thermal....and it's on sale at cabela's.  I do do a lot of sight fishing but if it's thermal all around and 900 denier, I might give it a shot.

If people saw us with our garage doors open doing what we do, I'm sure someone would try and take us to the nut house.

My weekends on honeoye I plan on staying in a hotel or whatever close by.  Any tips or ideas for locking my shelter up? I have a pickup with no cap. I figured my rods and reels/flasher could come inside with me.

have you lost your mind? ??? ??? why would you stay for the weekend at Honeoye. its a dead lake :o ;D .  as far as locking your hut, you should leave all your expensive things (power auger, flasher, camera) inside so that way people "think" there is someone there still fishing. oh, I will also need your GPS coordinates

I ordered the kenai pro thermal last year when it came out. Was dissapointed it did not have a blackout interior even though the the description said it did. I still think its a great shelter. Its full thermal so its toasty with a heater. Not dark enough inside for sight fishing. Would have bought the stealth version had it come out last year.

Thanks, IceFever.  I'm gonna stick with my 2-man clam again this year.  it's insulated on top and served me well the last 2 or 3 years.  They'll most likely come out with something new in the next year or 2 anyway.  I just dumped $400 on a full predator suit last night anyway.  I've been looking at these suits for a while and never got the nerve to spend the money.  It took a while for common sense to kick in but, I figured that not only will I be safer (floating) with this (rather than a new shanty) but it will do the job of keeping me warm.  It was about time.

I'm headed out to fish Saturday morning, will have picks on, life vest, and spud in hand. As far as Saturday being a killer to the ice!!!, I doubt that. I may be a little crazy but I know honeoye and she'll be fine. As far as I can tell we'll be good to go after this cold snap. See you all there Saturday morning!!! Woooooo
Freeze it and they will come.

Just got back from an ice check, as reported by others in the R and C page there's approximately 2 to 3 inches on the extreme south end. Only iced up 30 yards north of launch ramp. I walked and spudded 20 yards out. Ice cracked but held. The wind is beating the crap out of what we have now. It needs to stop. It is not safe and I'm not telling anyone to venture out, but with these temps and lord willing the winds die as the forecast predicts Saturday morning may be possible only for shallow water gills. Saturday's forecast does call for temps in the 40's but if you look at the hourly report it's only for a few short hours later that night into Sunday. They're expecting another cold shot Monday and Tuesday. Pray for winds to stop!!!!
Freeze it and they will come.

I agree.  Again, I'm worried about the 80% chance mix precipitation Saturday.
