I am not sure if they're daphina. From what I just read probably. Conesus had so many the other night the camera was useless.

How's the walk to smelt land? Long drag? and when is a good time to find the smelt bite? The only time I tried was sun downish till about 11:00pm.
I'm new to jigging smelt - only dipnetted them
Anyone can be a fisherman in May...E.H.

I just walked about 50 yards and set up shop. You would probably be fine 10 feet from shore it gets deep quick. So the walk isn't bad

These two lakes seem pretty similar.  Is one better than the other?  How is the south end of Hemlock for smelt?  Any other pan fish in Hemlock?  Thanks in advance!

Both lakes are full of smelt. It is easier to get on the ice at Canadice, but my humble opinion is Hemlock is the way to go! Hemlock is full of pan fish, but can be tricky to locate at times.
