Glad it worked out well Beerhog. Nice job on the Lakers!

We got your back unless your house blows down the lake then your on your own.....kidding.

I'm hoping to bump mine out onto the lake some place this weekend.

Thanks too to Guinea and Bloodhound for checking on it. Nice work!

So right now the only ice that I feel safe on is at the foot of the lake to Mayhew island. From there I'm not sure. I believe the whole lake is pretty much locked up however i am not positive. I haven't checked Wellington yet.

The lake just froze last week and even though it has been really cold, we have snow cover on the lake that has a thick crust over on top. Not a lot of cold air reaching the ice that is covered. Where ever it got wet (from ice holes) it froze up. Where ever there weren't any wet spots, it didn't get much cold air. To give you an idea, on Saturday and Sunday there was about 4" of pure black ice off of Cummings Beach, granted too that not much ice was made on Sunday. Today someone checked it and told me that we are still at 4" of ice. Hard to believe but that is what i was told. I was expecting 6".
We still have a few more days before the weekend so it is anyones guess at this point.

Don't know if this helps or not but bring a chisel and report back from where ever you go on the lake if possible would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like most of the Dark Side has caught. Stood on 3 1/2 - 4 " of white ice but stretched out and put traps on about 1 1/2" of ice ( frozen slush). Got skunked but it was good to be out. Wind picked up around 11:30. Picked up my traps around noon and called it a day.

Didn't venture to your end. Looks like the ice is here for good. Should be making ice all week.

I might be around tomorrow, not sure (back to 32 hr work weeks). I might stick around my roomies place and look into the beaver ponds he says are out back, but if I come to town, I'll stick around to help out if I can.

If I can't be of any help, I'll bring pom poms and cheer you all on.  ;D

Guinea, be careful, sounds like a ploy. Not sure he's referring to the "beaver pond in the back" is about water.....

Also, yes please bring your pom poms too.

1.09.15

Got the house out tonight onto the lake and help out a few others. Used the wheeler.

Need to be careful as Tippin said, the ice is different thickness. We need to pop some holes to wet the area so we can increase ice thickness.

Should be a good day tomorrow. Although we are all set up closely, this is our practice area. Get the houses set up and work out any bugs. It won't be long and we will start to venture out. Just need some more ice.

The Circus is building.......Here we go!

Does punching holes really increase ice thickness? Sounds like wishful thinking to me...

Right now the cold air can't get to the ice. Get it all wet and the air will freeze the water / wetness.

Give you an idea, where we fished and got the area all wet from last weekend, it is now 9" thick. Where we didn't, it's still black ice 4" or 1 to 2 punches with a chisel.

Makes perfect sense, the weight of the snow/ice pushes down... so when you punch a hole in the ice the water comes right up.....
I just want to go ice fishing and ignore my adult problems
