Fishing GPS
« on: Dec 29, 2014, 11:59 AM »
I have been considering buying a gps for fishing. I have not owned one. I'm looking for input, what ones are the easiest to use? what one has the best maps? Any input would be appreciated.

I bought the 688 hummingbird this year.  I like that it has the GPS & Sonar/flasher in one unit.  So far so good😜

I just set my humminbird 597ci HD di unit up for ice fishing tonight. Can't wait to get out an use it! I have been hearing great reviews on the humminbird units for year round use.

are you talking a Handheld device or something on the sonar as in the Hummingbird?  I have a Garmin Handheld but if you have a smart phone you can download some of the aps that work really well and are 10 times cheaper than a handheld unit.

I mounted my ram mount ball for my 859 HD DI in my upholder on my kenai pro. Really looking forward to being able to mark my spots and maybe graph up some stuff I won't be able to see on my vx1

Navionics app. It's like $10 and it works pretty nice.

I've got the Navionics app on my android phone and it works great. Can't beat the price. The same app on iPad is $49.99 which I think would be awesome too.

the navionics droid app is ok for the price but have found a lot of inconsistencies with those maps on the contours.
humminbird lakemasters are awesome use them religiously little on spendy side though.

I like the navionics app on my iphone . on most of the bigger lakes I fish I have found it to be really close. It was 10 for the app and I paid 5 more for the upgrade that gives you different contours and a lot of 1 ft contour maps.
