I went with a group a couple weekends ago. I am a tad late of the reporting. We stayed at bloomfields as well and the road to willow was excellent! We fished for 3 days in 25ft of water and lit it up. 80+ walleye, around 20 pike and an assortment of burbot and perch were caught. They would bite on pretty much anything that was put in front of them. The hot lure of the weekend was an orange slater. A guy that was with use only used that lure all weekend and you could jig it or dead stick it and they would bite. Have fun up there... Bloomfields is pretty close to roughing it but he's a good host.

as far as hooks go you cant go wrong with blaze orange at des or osk. pimples, jigs, or any other spoon tipped with a large minnow head or eyeball is great even throat latch under a spoon is deadly and stays on most of the day even under great fishing conditions. it allow you to get back down to the fish fast. ive even done well ona #8 potatobug spoon from len Thompson.

Just got back from deschambeault on Monday night, the road was plowed all the way to Willow Island ( thank you Gary!!) May have blown in a bit with the latest storm however should be easy travelling. As for the ice thickness, my guess would be close to 40". you will need an extension. Fishing was pretty good. Would pretty much be sleds only past Willow island. Have fun !!

We caught a few however not too many. Mainly walleye on jigs w/minnows. Most colours except white seemed to do the trick.

we just got back too.  White was the color for our group.  more so on saturday though.  Blue was by far the best.  I would bring a sled along unless you want to fish in a shanty town.  The discusting burbot were biting.  Caught far too many.  CO's were out checking guys and making sure they picked up the burbot.  bite was early morning until about 2.  After that you time was better spent drinking.

Balantyne was far better than willow island.  And you will be fishing out of the crowd.

we did not use an extention but we only had about 2 inches of shaft left.  If you have one i would bring it along but if you don't have one you don't need it.  You just have to kick some snow away before drilling.  So i would say 32-34 inches of ice.
