Perch eyes are legal in SD if  they are taken from cleaned fish. It is not legal to pop eyes from Perch to use as bait unless the fish are being cleaned. Page 23 in the regulations.

I agree with the Red Spikes/maggots

wax worm   Minnow hooked in back/tail for a little more action   Minnow head on a jig spoon of some kind.  All depends on what they want that day, but those are 3 that I try most of the time if they don't work then experiment from there.  Never tried the bacon here, will have to try that one this year.

I've been having good luck using the perch talker as a locater and attention-getter to draw them in, but haven't been catching a lot of perch on it.  I have heard that some guys are doing well with it though.  It seems to be too much/too big for the way they are biting right now where I am fishing.   Wax worms and maggots seem to be about 50/50.

I prefer a gold or silver slender spoon with a few wax works.  Occassionally will use a minnow head if the waxies aren't working.

I like to use a Swedish pimple with a few waxies on it. I like the bacon fat idea. I will have to try that.

Macho Minnow with a chain on it and a single hook tipped with wax worms have worked great for me this year along with a hook and small minnow.

Any and all of the previous work. If the fish are active, they will all work well.  If the fish are slow, lots of lookers and few takers, I switch the bait tho slivers of fresh frozen shrimp cut thin and left to dangle and dance.  Gets them to bite when nothing else works.

Kastmaster or  Swed Pimple ... with ice jig dropper  tipped with wax worm.  It has a good attraction value...yet will hook more neutral fish as well.
