Southern Wisconsin Ice?
« on: Dec 21, 2014, 05:33 PM »
I'll be in Livertyville, Il starting Sunday, December 28th for a few days.

Are there any lakes worth trying out within 2-2.5 hours of there? I'm very self sufficient and somewhat experienced, but not in Wisconsin. I've got spud and safety equipment, assuming the ice may not be perfect yet.

PM's would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

People are going in all over the place in SE Wis. With temps hoovering around 50 for tomorrow, Dec 23, things aren't looking firm until late week or next week.

Ice on the SW side of Wisc. ( Miss. River) is all but gone except for a inch our two here and there. Not safe by a long shot. We all will have to wait it out I guess.  STEVE

I was hoping for next week Monday or Tuesday.  I guess I'll have to play it by ear.  I'll bring my spud, inflatable vest, and glide lite.  I might get lucky.

Any idea on quick freeze lakes?  Shallow but fun?

Thanks

Dave

Its been nice to have the chance to fish for sure. PM would be fine e too if you dont want to post open forum. And of course if you find yourself in the gem state and need some tips look me up. Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

No safe ice that I have found in Madison, it's all pretty rotten, best to play it safe, I'm staying off! Just not worth it! Happy Holidays, stay safe.

Yeah! Cold weather is back! No one on Monona Bay today, still looks unsafe. Might hit Cherokee this week, shorelines are a bit iffy, a few people out today, not catching anything, I need to get outta the house and on some ice!

I fished Cherokee this morning, good ice, around 4-5", 3 hours out there, did not get a bite! Marked fish on the Vexilar, fish were just not interested in what I had to offer. Oh well, got the fishing itch outta my system, darn cold weather coming, will freeze up some better areas to fish. The area around the island at Cherokee opened up, hundreds of geese in there, quite a sight!
