I just wanted to say thankyou for coining my $15 Homemade sled the "Smitty Sled".........it makes me feel awesome inside every time I see "Smitty" mentioned......Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!

I live in the Flat lands so my search for cheap skis has been a long one. I scored some last week so the sled will be built soon. The lady wanted to know what the heck I was gonna do with old skis in Nebraska.  Of course, I said "build a Smitty Sled." I spent the next few minutes explaining the sled to their staff.

I think you must have Mystical Powers, because I built ours before I knew this forum existed.  It must have been your power that brought it to light.  Thank you for that.

Our hard water fishing out here in  Nevada is limited. The main lake we fish sets at 6000+ feet elevation.  It might be safe to fish on by New Years, it did have an inch of ice two weeks ago, been raining and temps 30's. It is a 200 mile drive one way from our driveway to the lake, but worth the drive.   

To all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year.

Okay Northern Nevada will shut up.

No, thank you smitty! :thumbsup: :bow: I just finished slapping together sled #2. I built the first one out of cross-country skis because they were given to me & I couldn't find any down-hills in the summer. Now that's it's the proper season, I picked up some down-hills for $5.00 at a local thrift shop. I did try the first one out on a bit of snow with 45 lbs. of weight on it. It pulled like a dream. :tipup:

If I'm not mistaken...The Smitty Sled is the only thing on Ice Shanty that is universally agreed upon and not argued over! No need to thank us Smitty.  You're the one who deserves all the thanks not only from we here, but those that have been turned on to your sled at other web sites thru us.  I have told several about it and they in turn have told others.  I wonder just how many there are, floating around out there.  Merry Christmas to you and your family and to all here.

I personally want to say thank you Smitty  for the sled
with it I can get back out on the ice after the 2011 accident and neck fusion
was out yesterday on Rice lake [4 hammer handles] and was able to move all my equipment by my self with out help
it was like there was nothing being pulled  ;D
