With the water temp we have now small ponds are just one cold snap away.  After that your guess is as good as mine.

Interesting. I just hope we get some solid ice for a couple months. Good thing I didn't order a gas auger like I was going to because they were predicting a winter worse than last year!

My swimming pool is bigger than that lake! It's froze over too.  ;D

I was out on a private gravel pit yesterday that had enough skim ice on it to kind of hold my jon boat and lock it in place so that I could, "ice fish".   Usually this pit freezes last and public lakes are fishable before this pit.  I think ice is on the way.  On a side note I did catch some perch and gills. ;D

Bret,  I hope NOAA is correct, and that below average trend continues thru February.
I'm getting concerned about forecast, 5 days ago on accuweather my forecast had only 3 days above freezing in the month of January....now same forecast only showing 7 days below freezing for the month of January.  I know 30 day outlooks change but I'd feel a lot better about it if it was showing several ice making days.
Take a kid fishing!

I hope NOAA is accurate too.  I've always liked their forecasts better than anyone else's.

From what I'm seeing, this week will destroy any ice that may jace gained since the last warm up and rain we had. Fortunately it looks the bottom should fall out starting Saturday with temps that should put ice on fast, especially channels, small water, and area protected from wind. I didn't get it much last winter considering the ice we had, and no time over the soft water season to fish so I have the itch bad.

I live on Syracuse Lake. Each morning the lake has skimmed partially over and some ice has held most of the day. The geese - about a hundred have sat on the edges so that was a lot of weight. I think one cold snap will make ice fast. 3 days to 3-4". Maybe not everywhere but channels and bays should be fishable.

I hate to be another nervous nelly but this warm weather just won't stop.  The extended forecast has been calling for serious cold to start Christmas day for quite some time.  Now it's being pushed back and back.

Looks like I picked a great year to buy a snowmobile...
That's some tasty iced tea.

Ouch on the snowmobile! They did say after Christmas cold but maybe that's for next Christmas. Come on Santa bring us some ice! Not in my stocking either. Santa has a sense of humor. ;D

If you were nervous before don't go outside today.  54 degrees out there.  Feels like April.

I only get 1 day off in 3 weeks of work so I asked Santa for "no ice" until the first few days of 2015.  Santa forgot where I lived last year so I think he gave me what I wanted this year.  Looks like I wont be missing first ice this year due to work.  Come January 6th all will be good and it will be game on.

Sure.  I wasn't about to scramble around in November and get all my gear ready so I could go out fishing once and then wait for it to sit unused again for another 1.5 months ::) ::)
