Denison to Black Hawk lake area, safe ice?

Going to be back in the area over christmas, any safe ice or do I need to road trip all the way to storm lake or beyond.

It's not looking good, I was hoping to get out next weekend around Denison while I'm back for xmas. Would be nice to see some farm ponds freeze up during the week. Be better than nothin.

I checked Black Hawk today, it was very touch and go- barely 3" in a shaded spot that I frequent.   I'd suggest further north, or a farm pond.

O well, brought the 12ga. Instead of the rods. Dog got some exercise and I bagged some pheasants.
