What's your favorite knot to tie?
« on: Dec 19, 2014, 01:31 PM »
Here is my favorite knot.  I use it 90% of the time fishin.

My line to line knot.

When I want more action on a lure I use this knot

This is also my favorite line to lure knot!

I call it the berkley braid knot, I found it on knot wars... that's what they call it... Seems to have the best strength and anti slip for braid...

I use this for tying all hooks and lures to my summer gear for flouro with 3 wraps or braid straight to lure/hook for ripping through heavy cover with 8 wraps...

I have heard it called the advanced Palomar knot

For what application? My "favorite" knot to tie is a Bimini Twist, it is stronger than the line... But it is not a knot I can use everywhere... For most basic, tie on a hook (mono and flouro), I use a Palomar. For the rare times I tie direct with braid (spectra) I also use a Palomar, but passing the loop/tag thru twice. Then there is splicing (Dacron and hollow spectra), I tie the Huffnagel for IGF Class fly leaders with shock leaders...  The list is long, just let me know the application...

Airplanejig, do you ever use say a Bristol knot that tests out stronger than a uni? Or for for tuna, wind-ons, still stronger?

Dont overlook the slim beauty for leader to line directly.  Very small profile and hold at almost 100%. That said I use a uni and palomar most of the time.

Flags up in just a few short hours...

Uni knot for me because that's one of the first knot I learned to tie and I can tie it in the dark because I'm so used to it. Every know and then I use the improve clinch knot but that's if I'm at home pre-tying my rigs  and leaders but when I'm on the water it's the uni knot because of how fast I tie it.

I saw that video. Pretty sure drag setting and rod play will make a difference. I still stick with the old standby.

I used to tie many different knots, and I still play with knots but these are my favorite:

Braid to floro- ALBRIGHT

Floro to hook- PALOMAR

Floro to Streamer or Lure- NON SLIP MONO LOOP

Fly leader- BLOOD KNOT

Boating- BOWLINE

I pretty much use only two knots,
Reverse albright for leader to braid (only freshwater, i use a swivel in salt)
 Uni for everything else

I know there are other knots that are suppost to be stronger but I have never lost a fish due to a knot failure. Obviously they need to be tied correctly

Also, the fishing fool knot looks just like a uni, at least that's how I tie uni

Wow you guys are into ice fishing. My favorite knots are on my wife's bikini strings.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

That could be true for any knot lol. But if you want the best, watch the video. It doesnt get much easier than that.

Or check out the app! I posted a link on page 1 of this thread...

The app includes short animated videos on each knot as a "how to tie"

Also it contains the break strength of each knot with braid, flouro and mono... Not sure what #line they were using but you can see and compare what knots are best for each line by comparison...
