ice on small ponds in south or central vt?
« on: Dec 17, 2014, 04:47 PM »
hey all

looks like the next few days are supposed to be cold up in vt. wondering if its worth the drive to head up there on saturday or sunday? i'd hate to spend a few hours in the car to find no safe ice. the heady toppers might be worth the trip though...

thanks.

We had heavy rain all over VT today adding to the foot or more of snow  last week
makes for lousy, dangerous conditions. I have the itch but think
we need at least one more good cold snap.

I was on the ice Monday, and I don't plan on heading out again until after Christmas.

I checked a small, shaded lake in northern VT yesterday.  There were many frozen holes, showing that someone had been out already, probably before all this rain.  I found 2" slush ice, 2" of black ice with 1" of water in between.  I will not be going out until after Christmas or after Jan 1.
