flatlander with a jack trap question
« on: Dec 16, 2014, 10:40 PM »
Hey guys I have a question about the jack jr trout trap for those of you who have them. How light is the tripper? Is it only good for fishing with salmon eggs or could I put live bait on it too. I heard they were such a light tripping trap that even a shiner could trip it. Anyways figured someone might have an answer for me. Good luck this year guys and have a nice xmas.

They work fine with live bait.
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

Agree, I have a set and use them with live bait all the time.

I use live bait all the time, you could shorten up the spring if the bait sets it off.

If you use a large bait, sucker for example an elastic band around the reel can keep the flag from tripping.  Lot of fisherman attach a very light rubber band to the line then wrap the band around the reel.  Works well.....  I've used Jack traps for 30 plus years.

I feel like all of their traps are very light. I have the larger standard traps from them. I usually just make sure the post on the reel is up against the tripper rod. If its not the bait could get a little run and trip it if you are using some big bait. They also make bait holder clips for pike fishing that hook on to the bottom of the traps, but you shouldn't need those.

I usually put the flag tripper on the reel on the other side of the tripper so the fish has a little momentum and might not feel my heritages trip. So that's good to know about the running start situation. I've heard people talk about the rubber band but I really can't picture what your trying to describe. Anyways Thanks for all the replies I appreciate it
