Strikemaster chipper lite
« on: Dec 16, 2014, 07:51 AM »
I just bought a strikemaster chipper lite auger and can not get it to start. In fact this is a second one that will not start. I exchanged the first one based on the advice from strikemaster customer service.

Here's what I've done so far.

Made a new gas oil mixture. Gas a couple of months old.
Followed the starting instructions sent by customer service.
Verified that there is spark
Gas seems to be getting to the Cylinder
Made sure engine was not flooded, took out spark plug and removed air cleaner and let auger sit over night.

Nothing seems to help getting it to start.

Only once did I get the engine to fire a little.

Any suggestions to get this started would be appreciated.

Not trying to be demeaning, but do you have the switch in the start position?  Everytime I let someone use my strikemaster that doesn't own one that is what gets them.  It looks like it's in start because the handle is facing "ON" but its the little nipple opposite of the handle that has to point to "ON"

That's very strange that two brand new augers will not start, assuming the switch is in start, you are priming it at least 7 times, your fuel tank vent line is clear and not submerged in fuel, and you are utilizing the choke switch correctly (move it off of start after pulling more than twice if it doesn't start).  There's not much to these things, hope something there helps you.

I've checked and double check things. The vent tube is not submerged nor is it clogged. I've tried priming different number of times including 7. Recapped the spark plug. Tried loosening the gas cap nothing.

Does it make a difference if the auger is standing up or laying down when you start it? I've tried both ways with no success.

I just bought one of those today. I hope I don't have issues with mine like that. I got a really good deal on it.

Hello.... Only glitch I saw was your 2 month old gas! If it is ethynoled it is junk in only 30 days (without stabilizer and seafoam)!  Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out please?   O.P.

I was finally able to get my auger running.

I called strikemaster consumer service. I ended up talking with the head technician. He said at times the factory sets the idle too low. His suggestion was to depress the throttle slight when trying to start it. After 3 pulls it started.
