Anybody make a homemade vexilar fl8 screen cover?
« on: Dec 12, 2014, 10:25 PM »
I see those fifteen dollar clear covers which prolly cost ten cents to make..

....anybody come across a homemade clear cover made from a soda bottle bottom  or something?

Or maybe use Saran Wrap and a rubberband?

Plastic wrap and a rubber band will work fine. You'll just need to replace it often. I went with the actual hard cover ($10.00 - $15.00)  about seven years ago and am glad I did. Had no idea they could last this long and still just as clear as when it was new.

I use a glass magnifier that fits the rim perfectly and its held on with tennis racket rubber grip tape and keeps it sealed tight. The lens came out of a old telescope we got for free.
It brought the clarity way up and keeps any snow or rain out of the hood.

True on the magnifier.    Ask for a Fresnel Lens of a proper size.

Also, at a photography place/supplies,  Wal-Mart is one option, there is a clear, stick-on protective cover. It may need trimming and must go on just right the first time you try.  Don't ask me how I know this, I'm still traumatized by that first try. Grrr !     ;)2

You may have noticed odd appearances with a wet screen, the stick on cover helps eliminate the weirdness.     ;)
