Minnesota spearers
« on: Dec 10, 2014, 01:57 PM »
Hello, I've been lurking here for awhile, joined a few days ago. Looks like mostly Michiganers  on here. Are there very many other Minnesotans on here? Just curious.

What area in West central?  I grew up in Dassel and make it out that way a lot.  I was just out there last weekend and saw lot's of pike and the lake I was on was crystal clear.

I am in Northern Minnesota just south of Hibbing.
Last weekend was good but this weather has melted all of the snow on the lake I spear.

When I moved from MN to WI I bought the lifetime angler resident fishing license, but had to give up the spearing.  I don't when the laws changed, but I noticed this year I can spear as a non resident with a dark house and spear license.  I have a Shapell portable that I had cut the floor to spear fish.  I assume even though it's a portable and doesn't required a fish house license to fish, I would have to get one for it to spear, even though I'm taking it off every night?  Would I still have to put my address or DNR # on the outside?

I dont think that that will be required if you are not letting it sit out overnight, and it is always occupied by someone. Don't quote me, but I am almost positive of this. If you go into any reputable place that sells a fishing license, they will probably give you some insight. And while you're there, you may as well grab a rule book. I have them stashed everywhere.. my fish house, tackle bag, and my pickup.. Never know when you gotta check something!

I have the regs.  There's a sentance that reads, "Non residents age 18 and  over must have dark house spearing license and anglining license to spear."  When I read this the other day I thought they meant dark house, spearing license and angling license, since they have licenses for all 3.  When I look at the spearing license it just says angling license required.

You have it fight Knife. You need an angling license and a spearing license. You only need the shelter license if you leave a house unattended overnight.

They make it confusing by wording it as a darkhouse shelter license. It often times confuses the people selling licenses.
