Halls Pond (Paris)
« on: Dec 07, 2014, 01:08 PM »
I got out on Halls Pond in Paris today. There was around 3 inches of ice near the shore, although I would avoid going too far out from the looks of it.

My girlfriend and I each landed a small brookie, and I lost an 18 incher at the hole. I may or may not have dove elbow deep trying not to lose him  ::) I'm taking a day off tomorrow, because I don't know how the ice will hold up through the rain for next weekend.

The tip ups were mostly a waste of time. The only bites we got on those were placing or removing bait. We seemed to have all of our luck with jigging.

Nice way to kick things off for your season.   We've all ended up with wet arms and more from time to time.

I've got the itch... No, not that one. It's the good kind.

Halls Pond is within 10 feet of a road so it gets hit pretty hard.

No gas augers or ice shacks... The way I read it you can't use portable shacks either. Doesn't really matter because you can sit right in your truck and watch for flags. :P

I am actually new to the pond this year but have caught quite a few. The ice is safe near the shore but I wouldn't venture to far out into the middle.

There was 3-4 inches of ice about 20 feet from shore on Monday.  This rain probably killed it for me this weekend, but I'm betting the 20th should be good to go. The action is pretty fast right now, and it will be until it gets fished out.

I went out yesterday and there must have been more than 1 inch of ice. The shore was not that good but if you walked out on the dock it was safe

Just break the ice so it looks like open water.

Technically no, but I don't know if all the wardens are savvy enough to call you on it. Whats interesting is in the spring time when guys on the great lakes fish threw iceburgs that they cut and tow into place.

Drove by today. Was several people out. Couple out in middle. Didn't stop to check ice thickness. Saw one guy running for a flag.

I may try fishing shallow tomorrow, but anyone going out on the middle is taking a risk. It would have been a risk on Monday when I was last out, and it's been nothing but rain since then. If the water is only waist high, I don't sweat it too much.

The warden was out on Monday, It's one of the few places this side of the state where people are fishing, so don't do anything less than legal, because they are checking.

I went out at 6:00 am and caught  my limit within 1 hour. Sucks because as i was picking up my traps i caught a 15 inch brookie and couldn't keep it. About 4 inches of ice near the shore

Rode by this afternoon they were about 4 or 5 groups and they were fishing all over even on the back side of the pond...everyone has their own theory as to whats safe, but think I'd stay close to shore til it gets back to winter weather...*S*s

The bite was slow today. We had 3-4 inches not too far from shore.

The state rule book only prohibits cars & trucks on the ice. There are municipal rules that apply because it is a water supply. My understanding is that ice shacks are banned. The sign at the dock says nothing about tents. My take on it is that shacks were banned because a couple people let them fall through. I think as long as the tent leaves at the end of the day, no one will bother you, but I guess you'd have to ask the Paris PD.
