Lake Manitoba

Hi all,
Anybody been out on Lake Manitoba, around the Delta Beach area? I was thinking of heading out tommorrow and wondering if anybody knew the ice conditions and if catching anything in that area.

Wish I knew what happened to the Perch ?  Lucky if you get two or three . I'm guessing Perch numbers where hit hard when they allowed commercial fisherman not to mention a no limit on Perch for anglers 10 years ago . Live and learn !

The small mesh seasons have greatly reduced the perch and the high pike population will prevent them from coming back. The only place in the south basin with perch is the middle of lake in the deepest water where there pike are fewer.The pike numbers are high because of the high water levels on the lake.It will be 20 years at least to have perch numbers for good fishing.

Makes sense to me. Good things ALWAYS come to an end imo.

...or possibly has the hydrology of the southern basin been changed by all the hundreds of millions of cubic feet of water that has been diverted into L Manitoba??  Food for thought😉

Very possible too. This should be a wake up call to all those with little kids. Get them out fishing now before the "good old days" are forever gone.

A number of horrible year classes is what happened to the perch out there!! The south basin has drastically changed and a lot of the perch spawning areas have been destroyed. Leaving prime conditions for pike and walleye. I'd be curious to see what would happen if people went out there and fished it like lake Winnipeg. I'm certain patterns could be figured out. May take a lot of effort though. When the perch have good year classes there is no way anglers could even make a dent in the population.

Back when I fished L Manitoba for perch it seemed they were way over stocked...way too many runts. I can recall many times catching a hundred perch over at Twin only to bring 25 home. An 11 incher was a trophy there. Most keepers were in the 8-9 inch class.
