Balsam pond  is in a state forest according to the NY DEC website. Is it a rough seasonal road into it or is it not that bad?

Looking to try and get into some pickerel this weekend.

Balsum road is not to bad at all.  Usually someone plows it, if there is snow. Parking plenty .  Fishing,  depends.  Good luck Geo.

Might head down there.  Depends on the wind.  If I do I'll be in an fx100 blue flip over.  Stop by and tell me some tales   G.

One question where can you park to get access to long pond?

Right off of Rt 41 on the west end.

krazyk, Long Pond is closer, good access, they're reporting 4"+ of ice, decent pickerel there...

I will probably be up to Long Pond Sunday also. Planning on getting out, just not sure if I will go there or Cincinnatus. Good luck to all, maybe I will run into some of you.

Sounds good Tubby. I've got a 2 man Frabill Shuttle. Usually out to the right side where the shoreline starts to jet back out. I will probably be up there right around first light.

Hit Balsam again yesterday at 2:30pm. After last weeks disappointing action I decided to just go straight out of the launch and set up in the middle. Drilled 3 holes 25 yds apart popped open the shanty, dropped in the vex and was like 'JC, FISH!'. Non stop panfish action til dark with a mix of decent and dink perch, crappie and sunfish on brobug tipped w/spikes in 7-9' just above the weed mat. worth noting that the sunfish were all good ones and among the best I've caught in over 20 years of fishing there (GO FIGURE ??) Not sure where to go today, - thinking Long Pond but probably shouldn't leave fish to find fish (LOL)

Hit Milbrook a couple weeks back, solid 8" ice.  Got skunked out with only a turtle taking a tip-up!!!  Had decent luck in the fall trolling for browns, but can't get them to take under the ice.  Any help would be welcomed...

It was a tough day out there at the derby. A lot of stuck cars and trucks along the road. The slush was terrible. I made one move after my initial setup. Got a lot of small rock bass, a small mouth, bunch of dink perch and 3 keepers.
There was a good turn out for the conditions.
It was nice fishing with Rugburn and his crew.

If I had a 15"er, I couldn't have walked it up to the judging stand. I was down past the boat house. Not many people down that way.

It has been a long time since I have been to Chenango lake, is the gun club up that way still serving breakfast on Sundays?  I grew up in Norwich and spent many of summer days on the lake with my buddy Jim.  I was looking at making the trip over soon and they only place I know of to publicly park and walk in on is the south end.

Most of the people I knew had camps/cottages up there have passed on.  Tight lines my friends and if I do get over there this year I will be sure to post the results!
